In 1972, the Agricultural marketing board was set up to support the agricultural marketing ecosystem in Bihar. BSAMB had invested in agricultural market yards and infrastructure therein to facilitate better access to markets to small and marginal farmers in Bihar. Post repeal of the APMC Act in 2006, BSAMB was dissolved, and its assets and liabilities were vested in the state. Accordingly, it has been provisioned that market yards will be managed and maintained by Sub-Divisional Officers, appointed as special officers at the district level while overall management will be entrusted with the Administrator, BSAMB(D).
